Description
Kamakshi
Kamakshi" which means "She whose eyes awaken desire, or She who has beautiful eyes".The word Kamakshi could also be split as 'ka' 'ma' and 'akshi' . Where 'akshi' in Sanskrit means eyes, the letter ka denotes goddess Saraswati and 'ma' denotes goddess Lakshmi. Thus Kamakshi is the one who has goddesses Lakshmi and Saraswati as her eyes and it is enough if she merely glances at her devotees, not even lifting her hand in benediction, the devotee is sure to receive all that he prays for. According to legendary resources, goddess Parvathy was the one, who had pleaded with her husband Lord Shiva to restore the Kama, the love god, back to life, after he was burnt to ashes by the latter. One could very well associate this with the goddess Kamakshi. The Padmasana posture is said to resemble a lotus. In the Yogic practice, this resembles the form of meditation. The Goddess also has a Chandraperai (shape of the moon like structure) in her forehead. The Goddess holds a Sugarcane bow on her left upper arm and Lotus, Parrot in her right upper arm. The Goddess also has divine chakras called Pasa and Angusa in her arms
